6/2 Newsletter
What's up? Have you ever wondered what is your most indispensable possession and why? Well,for me,I have a whole collection of Manchester United's posters from different countries and continents.
My uncle is a Manchester United's fan and he travels all around the world for business purposes and he often buy me stuffs. Rare things are posters are hard to get and I think it is impossible to get in Singapore.
My room is also full of wallpapers from New Zealand which were bought by me in Malaysia during the holidays.Sometimes,I also persuade my mother to bring me to other parts of the world just to collect some posters.XD

What is sports?
In British English, sporting activities are commonly denoted by the collective noun "sport". In American English, "sports" is more used. In all English dialects, "sports" is the term used for more than one specific sport. For example, "football and swimming are my favourite sports", would sound natural to all English speakers, whereas "I enjoy sport" would sound less natural than "I enjoy sports" to North Americans.
The term "sport" is sometimes extended to encompass all competitive activities, regardless of the level of physical activity. Both games of skill and motor sport exhibit many of the characteristics of physical sports, such as skill, sportsmanship, and at the highest levels, even professional sponsorship associated with physical sports. Air sports, billiards, bridge, chess, motorcycle racing, and powerboating are all recognized as sports by the International Olympic Committee with their world governing bodies represented in the Association of the IOC Recognised International Sports Federations.[7]
What is vocabulary?
The vocabulary of a person is defined either as the set of all words that are understood by that person or the set of all words likely to be used by that person when constructing new sentences. Even though the two words are synonymous, "curse" is a regular part of the vocabulary of most native English speakers while "imprecate" is not.
The richness of a person's vocabulary is popularly thought to be a reflection of either intelligence or level of education. Accordingly, many standardised tests, such as the SAT, have questions that test vocabulary.
English Vocabulary
It is widely circulated that the English language has the largest vocabulary of any language, but this claim is difficult to formulate precisely, and essentially impossible to prove.[1]
The Oxford English Dictionary lists a total of 171,476 words with an additional 47,156 obsolete and 9,500 derivative words as subentries, giving almost a quarter of a million words in the English language, even when technical terms, place names and multiple word senses are excluded.[2] Clearly, therefore, any individual's vocabulary must necessarily consist of only a small subset of the total possible vocabulary of the language. One estimate, by David Crystal, is that the average college graduate has an active vocabulary of 60,000 words and an additional passive vocabulary of 75,000 words.[3]
Increasing the size of one's vocabulary, also called vocabulary building, is an important part of both learning a language and improving one's skills in a language in which one is already proficient.
Vocabulary Acquisition and games
There are many ways to improve vocabulary, one however seems to stand above the rest, it is called Motor Imaging.(Casale, 1985, Casale & Manzo, 1983) See also reading skills acquisition. Many adults find vocabulary building to be a fun and educational activity, as evidenced by the popularity of "word-a-day" services. This is also reflected in the popularity of the charity website FreeRice, which employs a donation model based upon a vocabulary-building word game.
The nights I spent in my car >> Reader's Digest
What's up?Did you subscribe to Reader's Digest?If you did,you probably have read an article about a woman spending almost 9 months in her car.That was one of the most interesting article that I read in the magazine.
The article was about this woman who became bankrupt spending 9 months sleeping in her car.Sometimes,she would get out and buy snacks to refresh herself.She won't spend two nights in exactly the same spot because she knew people would be very suspicious.
This charming woman then made a blog and posted some posts about her life.She though that blogs were useless because there are millions of blogs and if she was selected,then it would be a miracle.However,the next day,when she checked in her blog,she was surprised to see a lot of response and comments to her posts.She then got a job with big pays.Now she's one of the most richest woman in the world !

What is Science?
Fields of science are commonly classified along two major lines:
Natural sciences, which study natural phenomena (including biological life), and
Social sciences, which study human behavior and societies.
These groupings are empirical sciences, which means the knowledge must be based on observable phenomena and capable of being experimented for its validity by other researchers working under the same conditions.[5]
Mathematics, which is sometimes classified within a third group of science called formal science, has both similarities and differences with the natural and social sciences.[3] It is similar to empirical sciences in that it involves an objective, careful and systematic study of an area of knowledge; it is different because of its method of verifying its knowledge, using a priori rather than empirical methods.[6] Formal science, which also includes statistics and logic, is vital to the empirical sciences. Major advances in formal science have often led to major advances in the physical and biological sciences. The formal sciences are essential in the formation of hypotheses, theories, and laws,[7] both in discovering and describing how things work (natural sciences) and how people think and act (social sciences).
The history of science is marked by a chain of advances in technology and knowledge that have always complemented each other. Technological innovations bring about new discoveries and are bred by other discoveries which inspire new possibilities and approaches to longstanding science issues. Investing in science and technology is critical to ensuring prosperity and a high quality of life. Scientists are at the forefront of the development of scientific and technological innovations. The primary objectives of these professionals are to create and develop novel research that can be used to solve problems for both the states' populations, as well as individual entities like companies.
Science as discussed in this article is sometimes termed experimental science to differentiate it from applied science, which is the application of scientific research to specific human needs, though the two are often interconnected.
The "F" word-Friends
If we have tolerance and no trust,our friendship won't be peaceful because there'll be definately a lot of misunderstanding and that will cause friendships to break.The same goes if we only have trust and no tolerance.
We have to somehow treasure friendships because that is something we cannot buy !!

What is your most indispensable possession and why?
What is my most indispensable possession and why?I don't have the slightest idea of any indispensable possession but my Man Utd's collection of posters and wallpapers are certainly irriplacable.Why?I collected them from all around the world.From Portuguese to Spain to Japan and England.My uncle travels around the world for business purposes and he will always get some posters or wallpapers for me.
Not just my collection of posters and wallpapers are indispensable,my collection of books are also indispensable.I got them directly from the writers and they produced their autographs on my books.I got 6 whole shelves filled with books and my mum planned to throw them away but I packed them in boxes instead.So,do you have any indespensable possessions ?

What is the meaning of " He laughs best who laughs last?"
What is the meaning of "He laughs best who laughs last?".It basically means "what goes around comes around".
My favorite quote!
Meaning no.1 : What people do to others in their lives will eventually be done to them, one way or another. Another similar expression is: "the chickens will come home to roost".
Meaning no.2:
The decisions you make & the way you treat people will someday come back to stare you in the face. If you are good & kind to people they will treat you kind. If you are cruel to people & make bad decisions then life will not be so kind to you. However you act in your life, expect the same to come back to you.It may not happen right away but at some point in your life you will face the consequences or rewards.
Meaning no.3:What "goes around" meaning what you give off, "comes around" meaning you get back. A different cultural way of describing how karma works, What you give out comes back to you
Meaning no.4:You do something bad or mean it will eventually come back to you by someone else doing the same or worse to you. It could take days or years but it comes back. The same can be said about doing good things also. It always comes back.
Meaning no.5:About the same as "You'll reap what you sow."
Eventually,you will notice that all the 5 meanings contain the same expression.Let me give you an example.
Let's say,one day,you punched someone.After a year,a tougher guy came to you and punched you for no reason at all.You would soon realize your mistake and regretted over punching that "someone"(On the first sentence) because you know "He laughs best who laughs last".

Forza

An idea of a very dull evening
So, friends! What shall I tell you today!Should I talk of roses, or flowers that are grey?No no no no no.These things are not for me.I shall talk about sports.Sports that are fun or rather interesting,I should say.Now,you know what I meant.Soccer ! What else can I talk about besides soccer.The most lovable sport for me,Forza7Sza,the one and only.
Well,to me,everyday is dumb and dull but I'll tell you what's and idea of a very interesting evening.My idea of a "pretty decent weekend" is one spent in the green field with twenty two men with a ball and not at home doing homeworks,studying,reading and do stuffs that a girl shouldn't do.
Watching the ESPN or Starsports channel is also an interesting stuff to do.Watching live match
and Nokia Football Crazy.What do you get from doing all those kinds of things?I can't answer that question because there really is nothing you cam get from doing all those thing !! You only gain experience in accuracy,concentration and fun.
Favourite Book
My favourite book.Since this is quite a popular topic in blogs and journals,I am going to create a post on my favourite book.I don't really have a favourite book because most of the books that I have read are mostly interesting.I like to read Roald Dahl's and Carolyn Keene's Nancy Drew books.Besides that,True Singapore Ghost Stories,Hardy Boys and non-fictions also happen to be my favourite.
Types of Books
From the examples that I have given above,I am sure that you can conclude what type of books I like best.Mystery and ghost stories are definately two of my favourites.I like to read mystery stories as they always keep me in suspense and encourage me to read more.Why do I like to read Nancy Drew's books?They always end the chapter with suspense and I must read the next chapter to go on.By doing that,I can finish reading the book faster and read more !
Types of writers
Different writers have different style of writing and different levels of vocabulary.Books that have lower level of vocabulary are for the lower levels.And for the ones with higher level are for the opposite.Bad vocabulary effects your English.So,choose your your books slowly and wisely ! Happy reading !
What type of music I like??
What type of music I like?Hmm..It's a tough question,I might say.I would say that I like all kinds of music except for rubbish like reggae,hawaiian,country and blues.I prefer Rock,Hip-Hop,Pop and anything nice(=]) ). Why I like those type of songs is because I like the lyrics.The lyrics would always give a clear vision of what the singer/songwriter is trying to express.
Why Lyrics Are Important?
What makes a good song so appealing to the people who buy CDs and MP3 files? Is it the background beats or the guitar riffs played? Is it the voice of the lead singer or how high he or she can take his vocals to? The truth is that the most important part of most songs, techno possibly being an exception, is the lyrics, or the words of the song. The lyrics are the meat of any song, and are usually the part that is most recognizable from any song. They are an integral part of any music tune and it would be a mistake for any artist to take them lightly.
As mentioned before, the most recognizable part of any song is usually the lyrics. What this means is that when someone is looking for a song they heard on the radio, they will probably remember some key lines from the chorus. They are not, however, likely to remember a well-done guitar solo or something of that sort. While instrumental play is important as well, people usually link songs with the words inside the music. This is because words are not only much easier to remember than instrument music is, they are also easy to translate to someone else. For example, it would be much easier to find a CD if you know the words to a song than if you knew the drum beats from a song.
Lyrics are often commonly considered to be the single artistic part of music as well. While this is certainly not true from a musicians standpoint, as guitars and drums take a lot of practice and time to master, it doesn’t change the fact that many people feel that a good song must have quality lyrics. Good lyrics will relate to a person’s life and make them feel better about a bad situation. Bad lyrics will focus on trivial parts of life that really don’t matter and will have no deeper meaning to them after the song is over. Artists will find that after a while people tire of hearing the same old stuff about showing off gold chains and shaking behinds. Many music fans are looking for songs that have meanings, and this in turn means that artists need to spend more time on their lyrics.
Remember that before it was stated that lyrics are important because of how they can be recognized. This is double-fold when you consider that good lyrics in one song can sometimes single-handedly assure an artists legacy. Journey is one good example of this, as their biggest hit in “Don’t Stop Believing” is a pop culture hit that has never lost fans throughout the decades since it’s release. On the other hand, artists without a standout lyrical song will often find themselves fade out of the picture as their era in music ends.
All in all, lyrics are an important part of any song and the words are the part fans look to the most for inspiration and meaning. Artists who come up with great lyrics are usually the ones most revered long past their prime, so it is important that they focus on this part of a song!
Examples of bands/soloist that I like
-> Good Charlotte
->My Chemical Romance
->Bon Jovi
->Paris Hilton
